Silly Me

Postby DaisyB » Sat Aug 07, 2010 8:45 pm

I have just got back from A&E at the hospital. I fell off Dave's bicycle and landed on my face and left shoulder. Smashed my glasses, cut my face, bruised my knees and they think I have torn the cuff rotator muscle in my shoulder, there appear to be no breaks. I have to go back to fracture clinic on Monday afternoon. I'm feeling very sorry for myself and rather stupid.

I haven't ridden a bike for 20 years, but thought maybe if I took up gentle cycling again it might help me lose some weight. The radiographer said exercise is dangerous, at the moment I agree. I thought cycling might also help my arthritic knees. Well I don't think I'll be trying it again,

Oh June. That's terrible.
Oh I do so hope you soon heal.
Gosh that shoulder must be soo painful.
It took ages for the pain in my shoulder to get better when I
did the same last year and smashed my face and broke my nose, and your shoulder seems far more damaged.
I really am feeling for you. Even now I get nervous walking just in case I fall.
Big hug from me.

Was the bike OK?

Just trying to make you smile June. I hope you recover quickly and it's just a few scrapes and bruises and nothing more serious.

Trouble is, as I recently found out, we don't bounce as well as we use to. :grouphug:

Oh June - that must have shaken you up a lot - quite frightening I imagine.

Hope you are not in too much pain, and you'll soon be more comfortable.

Thanks for your good wishes, Dave's bike is fine. We are hoping to claim off the home contents insurance for my specs. They were the best pair of specs I've ever had, comfortable from day one and have never needed adjustment. Jaeger frames, and with my strong prescription lenses they cost almost £600 four years ago.

I didn't get much sleep last night, and the painkillersre making me dreadfully drowsy. We are going out to lunch with some cousins today, hope I can stay awake.

Very brave of you June... When you're all healed up you might consider an exercise bike. You could pedal away for half hour each evening while watching TV.

An even better exercise would be swimming. I know somebody whose doctor advised them to swim 3 times a week for their athritis.
I go as often as I can. Our local pool has over 50's sessions and also aqua aerobics is good....An excellent way of keeping fit.

Oh my word! You, too? Fell off a bicycle, I mean. I did that 20 years ago. For sure I didn't have such disastrous results.

Hope your scrapes and bruises and shoulder worries clear up quickly, June.

P.S. I'm about to get myself a stationary bike. Carol has a good suggestion there.
