Hospital appointment today.

I have had over four hours in the hospital this morning being checked over to
find out if I need a pacemaker or not.
The main doctor has said that they cant seem to find what is causing the blackouts
but he didn't want me to have a pacemaker just yet until they have done some more
tests on me so its been suggested that I have a recorder in place of the pacemaker
to find out exactly what is happening when things go amiss.
The recorder is about as big as a memory stick that is used in computers.
I will also be issued with a tiny machine that hubby will have to put over the
recorder IF I have another blackout session.
He will have to press a button on the tiny machine that will transfer from the
recorder what is happening to me during one of these bouts.
If I do have another blackout or funny turn we have to notify the hospital straight away.
I will also have to use it if I have palpitations to monitor them.
I will have to go back to have the recorder checked every three months.

IF after two years of having the recorder inserted it shows up blips
in my heartbeat they will then replace the recorder with a pacemaker.

Gawd!!!!!!!!! Never a dull moment.

Its a bliddy pest isn't it. I had appointments for the gall bladder consultant last Thursday and yesterday was four hours in the respiratory clinic getting checked over and tests being done. Exhausting!!

I cant say that I am looking forward to it Eve.
It will involve a minor op to have the recorder inserted under local anaesthetic and providing nothing goes wrong it should
take about 30 minutes with an hours bed rest before I am assessed well enough to go home.
To make matters worse I have to wash my hair and shower in special stuff that they have given
me for two days before I go in for the op and sniff stuff up my nose three tmes a day too.

WOW !! I've been out of the biz too long, I guess. This is something new to me. I wish you much good luck and hope this will tell the docs exactly what's going on.

That sounds like a good bit of kit to me, Maisie. Amazing what can be done.
Hope it is fitted soon.
It would be best if you don't have anymore of your funny episodes....but at least if you do, they can see what is happening.

I bet you went to hospital on a high note after that excellent scrabble score yesterday!!!

Well I must admit that I am looking forward to having it done Mazzy BUT I am
not relishing the idea of being without my bra for a bit until it heals up.
I will be tripping myself up. :roflmao: :roflmao: :roflmao:

The trouble is I will still be restricted because I would still have to have someone with me
when I go out anywhere just in case I had another blackout, plus showng them what to do if I had another turn.
That means carting the little machine with me and showing whoever is accompanying me how to work it.

The Scrabble score was pure luck and it takes me all my time to beat you. :huffin:

Hi Maisie, so sorry to hear of your ordeal at the hospital and hope you are ok now.

Do you have low blood pressure by any chance? My DIL has low BP and has mini blackouts and its due to low BP. The hospital have given her tablets for low BP.

I am going this afternoon Tooilp for an implanted loop recorder to be inserted in my chest. They are not sure what it is that is making me black out so I am having the heart recorder to start off with. IF it shows any abnormalities after a spell they will then take the recorder out and replace it with a pacemaker. I HOPE.
Its a local operation as they say but they have said to take all my meds and an overnight bag but I am hoping that nothing goes amiss because I am beginning to have an aversion to hospitals. :huffin:
