Susan Boyle was just a modest woman, with a great gift of a voice, who was propelled to hysterical fame and immediately became an Aunt Sally. I find all that very sad.
I never watch those programmes but if someone has an opportunity for a better life, that is wonderful.
Did you ever watch the documentaries about Hannah Hauxwell (that was her name, I think?) who lived on fifty pounds a year, on a bleak Yorkshire Moor? Later made into a book Too Long a Winter. A very touching story.
