Do you act your age?

Postby mo » Sun Sep 05, 2010 8:01 pm

I can't believe I'm the age I am. My mind seems so much younger.
I love most modern things including musc, modern clothing styles if they suit me.
Have so much patience when playing games with our youngest grandchild and five great grandchildren.
Always ready to listen to the fun and outings our older grandchildren go to.
Spend good money on makeup and perfume.
Enjoy trying out foreign dishes, and don't often live in the past just try to look positive to the future.

But.... there is a big but. My body doesn't feel the same.
Housework takes me twice as long to do.
I have arthritis in my knees where I find it difficult to climb stairs.
Arthritis in my shoulders which keep me awake nearly all night.
On the big plump side, find it soo hard to diet.

Oh if only my body was as young as my mind feels :groaner: :groaner: :groaner: .

When it comes to music I swear I'm stuck in a time warp... but most of the other things I can identify with.

I never felt old. My mind always stayed young. The rude awakening was ( and is ) when I step out of the shower and am faced with a :tantrum2: 6 ft by 10 ft. mirror directly across from the shower.

Actually, I never really acted my age ... I do pretty seriously active stuff to celebrate every 5 years birthdays. That's catching up with me now. I'm not sure I'll be able to do what I really want to do to celebrate the next 5-yr birthday anniversary. We shall see, I guess.

What a nice compliment Toolip.
I haven't had a perm for three years as I found my hair was breaking and looked quite thin. Now I have a good cut, use a non permanent non peroxide colour shampoo and I'm happy with that. Now my hair is nice and thick.

Rocky - what sort of - seriously active stuff ?

Mo - you are quite right, tight perms are ageing and destroy the hair. A good cut, good shampoo and some conditioning, much better.

9 years ago I spent two weeks hiking my way across Norway ... East to West. Much prefer Bergen to Oslo and love the Geilo ski area ( great for hiking in the Summer ). That was my 65th birthday treat.

4 years ago I rafted the Colorado through Grand Canyon. What a rush that was! My 70th birthday treat.

I wanted to go up to Churchill, Manitoba to do the Polar Bear watching next year. It involves a lot of hiking on seriously nasty ice/snow. I've developed CIPD ( chronic form of Guillain-Barre ) so much as I'd like to do this, I doubt I will be able.

So ... I'll find something else not quite so physical. And probably a good bit less expensive? Hope so to both.

So sorry to read about your problem Rocky. I have just looked into your website.
I have arthritis in the knees which prevents me from walking too far with being in a lot of pain, and climbing stairs is soo painful i avoid them as much as I can and use the elevators.

Julie Andrews Turns 69, this is hysterical

To commemorate her birthday , actress/vocalist, Julie Andrews made a special appearance at Manhattan 's Radio City Music Hall for the benefit of the AARP. One of the musical numbers she performed was 'My Favorite Things' from the legendary movie 'Sound Of Music'. Here are the lyrics she used:

(Sing It! - If you sing it, its especially hysterical!!!)

Botox and nose drops and needles for knitting,
Walkers and handrails and new dental fittings,
Bundles of magazines tied up in string,
These are a few of my favorite things.

Cadillacs and cataracts, hearing aids and glasses,
Polident and Fixodent and false teeth in glasses,
Pacemakers, golf carts and porches with swings,
These are a few of my favorite things.

When the pipes leak, When the bones creak,
When the knees go bad,
I simply remember my favorite things,
And then I don't feel so bad.

Hot tea and crumpets and corn pads for bunions,
No spicy hot food or food cooked with onions,
Bathrobes and heating pads and hot meals they bring,
These are a few of my favorite things.

Back pain, confused brains and no need for sinnin',
Thin bones and fractures and hair that is thinnin',
And we won't mention our short shrunken frames,
When we remember our favorite things.

When the joints ache, When the hips break,
When the eyes grow dim,
Then I remember the great life I've had,
And then I don't feel so bad.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

(Ms. Andrews received a standing ovation from the crowd
That lasted over four minutes and repeated encores. Please
Share Ms. Andrews' clever wit and humor with others who
Would appreciate it!

VM, I'd read that before and it is absolutely delicious!! I've always heard that she has a wicked sense of humor and she certainly isn't afraid to poke a little fun at herself.

Actually, it's Mo who is battling arthritis.

The suggestion I hear most is parachuting ... I don't think so !! A little adrenalin is fine, but not that much.

:roflmao: I've been ground crew for a balloonist ( my son and his friend ). A glider, with an experienced glider pilot -- that sounds like fun -- good suggestion!
