I got really ...................

Postby Maywalk » Tue Sep 28, 2010 8:38 am

cheesed off with myself yesterday and decided to do a bit of knitting.
I have started on a crib blanket making my own pattern up as I go along.
I only hope it doesn't get TOO heavy for my fingers because I get the flipping cramp in them.
I can only do about five rows at a time before I have to rest so wish me luck that I finish it off.
I dont usually take on big things like this now but I have had some pretty pale lemon double knitting yarn lying about for about two years now and just wanted to do something to occupy my mind IF and when I watch the TV.
Any other knitters here?

I used to knit and make clothes for my daughters when they were small, couldn't afford all the stuff they have nowadays. As you know we have new baby in our family, but his mum doesn't like hand knitting so it's a waste of time. A few years ago when I was looking after my sister I was bored and I decided to knit again and made some long scarfs in all different colours. When I told the girls I was knittiing them they said oh we won't like them, when they saw them they changed their minds and I was soon getting requests from their pals for the scarfs.

Glad to know that you came in useful JJ.

Its surprising how knitting has taken off just of late with many knitting forums to go into.
Quite a few men have had a go at knitting too, plus there are men designers.

Some great knitting being done ! I like to knit too but here I simply can't get nice wool and I'd been taught to attempt to knit with a poor wool is just a waste of time. I brought some Sirdar over with me and have done a couple of jumpers and mits with it. The babywear is just lovely and I also love the handwarmers and socks. If I had the pattern I'd attempt them with the couple of balls of Sirdar I've got left. Just tell yourself Maisie that you must give yourself a rest after a few rows.

Have a look among the patterns on here Corrie.
You might just find something that you could use the yarn up on.
There are quite a few pages to look through.

I'm knitting a quite wide and long scarf right now. I really don't know why I decided to knit it rather than crochet as crochet goes faster and frogging it is easier if I goof.

For several years now I've crocheted scarves, about two dozen each time, to take to the homeless shelter here. It keeps my hands busy ( and away from snacks ) in the evening when watching TV and it's also helpful to others, so I feel good about that.

I belong to a knitting group (Loving Hands) and everything is donated to charity.
We had a reporter and photographer from the local paper visit last week.
If and when the article gets printed I will post a link.

The reporter is such a lovely girl.....but then she is my Nellie's grand daughter.

Friday 8th October will be the first anniversary of me losing my dear little friend. I still miss her very much.

Such a loss for you Mazzy but your poor Nellie is at peace now for sure. :grouphug:
