Well we are back and we had a good time. The weather was fairly kind to us but the main point and worry was to try to accelerate Amy’s fight with and overcome some of her OCD compulsions and I’m glad to say she did us proud. Having only been able to eat at home for the last two years with an occasional panini at one trusted restaurant this week we ate out at Bella Italia five times snacked in Starbucks and another “snacky” place. Added to which rather than eating the same thing each time Amy chose something different every evening something we thought was a step too far to hope for.
We walked in the woods and Amy booked a session on the climbing wall and climbed to the top (twice) even though the hand holds were muddy and in some cases full of leaves and water. This is/was the girl who, for two years, couldn’t touch her feet because they might be dirty; a significant improvement we just hope Amy can maintain this without a relapse and use it as a huge stepping stone on her way to coming to terms with the disorder.
Beth was, well Beth, everything in her stride as always. She booked the raptor session and, having flown Kestrels and a Montagu's Harrier previously as part of her diploma was picked on to become the handlers assistant ending up with Beth flying an Eagle Owl, the biggest raptor she has handled, to a lure which was a big thrill for her.
As for my daughter (their mum) Nicky and myself we just enjoyed having Amy and Beth with us and an Amy close to normal.
Now they are both back to their OU studies and in addition Beth is back to her driving lessons and starting her new job.
