There used to be old men who were 'wart charmers' in Ireland when I was a little girl. Quite often, the seventh son of a seventh son was said to have the power to perform these charm-healings and I heard they would put a penny over the wart and mutter a few words.
As it happened, I did suffer from four little warts on my fingers, as a child - but never fancied being so ministered unto! But when I stopped thinking about them, they disappeared overnight and never returned.
