NHS Treatment .............The Mind Boggles.

Postby Maywalk » Fri Oct 08, 2010 2:44 pm

Is this the latest in NHS treatment. ???????????

I have just had an e-mail from my niece who has been to see her doctor this morning concerning tablets she is taking.
While there she showed the doctor a lump on the inside of her finger.
The Doctor said that it was a wart and the best cure is a piece of banana and piece of duct tape wrapped around it ??????????

Yes I know it is Penny but it just struck me as odd that an NHS doctor should recommend it.
Is it to do with cut backs do you think.?

If the government had imposed the same rules as we had set to us when we migrated to France the NHS would'nt be in the pickle its in. We had to sign a declaration that we'd never take anything out of the system, we had to have enough funds for our care. Think I'll rant in the Debate section instead of on your thread Maisie!

Conventional medicine has never found anything really effective, for warts and many other conditions. Dunno about the banana skin but gaffer tape stops warts from 'breathing', that's the theory.

However, some people can get a bad allergic reaction, from gaffer tape.

I used to get irritation round the eyes and I was given antibiotics, which never worked. I asked the quack for any old-fashioned remedies and she said pat the area gently with two clean hankies, first one very hot, from the kettle (careful not to get scalded), then one very cold. The irritation disappeared and never returned.

That's weird - I have just developed a wart (first ever) on the back of my hand.

I'll have to think of a different cure though - how can I knit with a chunk of banana on my hand????

Do you think this may be the beginning of a wart epidemic ?

Having started this thread with my posting about the home remedy
recommended by the doctor I always carry a satchet of vinegar around in my bag just in case I get a wasp sting.
It certainly helps to ease the pain and take down any swelling.

The vinegar worked a treat for our great niece who was stung at the lake here, I always carry a "sting dabber", however, as I raked in my bag to get it her Dad picked up the vinegar off the picnic table and put it on her, it soothed her immediately.

Back to the warts - when my hubby was helping someone out mixing cement within 3 days he had at least a dozen warts on each hand! Doctor said cement could give this reaction! He did give him some cream and eventually they disappeared.

I remember Mam using Fairy green soap mixed with half a spoon of sugar, she would put a chunk into the palm of her hand and work the sugar in it with her thumb until it was soft. This was used as a drawing cream.

Dont forget that its the inside of the skin that has to be put over the wart.
Dont go putting slices of the banana on.
