Good Morning Sunday.

Good Morning Sunday.

Postby Maywalk » Sun Oct 10, 2010 6:58 am

Still dark outside so I cant say what the weather is like so far.
I am waiting for the bone tablet to digest before having my breakfast.
What a ruddy tata this is every Sunday morning remembering to take this tablet.
Does anyone else take the alendronic acid tablets once a week?

I hope you all have a nice day and I will be back later.

Roughly around 30 minutes Mazzy.

Something to do with the tablet digesting plus I have a hiatus hernia which doesn't help.
During that time I must not lie down or bend if possible. I can sit upright so thats why I come on the computer.
Thats my excuse and I am sticking to it.

They are for osteoporosis Penny and when I first started on them I had to take one EVERY DAY.
What a performance that was. :huffin:

It was only when I went to the doctors some time ago and said I was sick of taking the darn things every morning when he said that in that case he will put me on one a week that covered the whole dosage for the week.
I have been on them nearly 11 years now.

Okay, I have to add something here ... I've taken alendronate for about 10 years. Recently more than one study has come out saying that if you take it for 5 years or more, you're in more danger of a break -- I've forgotten whether it was hip or thigh.

That sounds strange. But the studies have shown such. And I do note that after having better bone density for several years, the last test showed a decrease.

So I've stopped the alendronate. When it comes time for my next physical appointment, I'll check with the doc, but until then I'll be watching the various studies that come out between now and then.

You are doing the right thing Rocky - I check everything myself now. My doctor is very good but he only has so much time to do any research on new medications - so I print them off for him!!!!

Just read a little about it Maisie, seems you have to sit or stand upright for thirty minutes when youhave taken the tablet. Has to be taken whole. etc. I hate tablets so would have a job with this one. Several posible kinds of side effects, Have you found that they helped with your condition. cheers Penny :grouphug:

Well Penny I cant really say whether they have helped strengthen my bones or not.
This is because I did break my hip and arm some years ago but whether it has helped to make them knit together better I would not like to say.
I suppose the tablets have helped in one way but I have to have a special one because of any oesophagus problems due to the hernia AND taking this particular tablet. All rather complicated.

Thanks Maisie, think I will leave this subject to you too complicated for me.As I said, I hate taking tablets, makes me wonder if it is worth the bother. We are always left to wonder what would happen if we didn't take them. Can;t win can we. Just have to keep plodding on and hope for the best. cheers Penny :grouphug:  :please:
