Amitriptyline can have very serious and unpleasant side effects - for some people - including hair loss. Personally, I would not touch the stuff with somebody else's barge pole.

There are gentle herbal remedies containing valerian and other herbs, well tried and tested. Worth trying. I know they don't work for everyone. Camomile tea really works for me, two sachets, in a small amount of boiling water, let it cool enough to drink, half an hour before bed.

Viv - I am so sorry, bad experiences like that often leave a legacy - for a time. Do you have a relative, or friend, who could stay with you for a while? Can make a big difference.
