Americanisms

Postby Rowan » Sun Nov 21, 2010 11:05 pm

You probably all know on here how much I hate Americanisms taking over our cultures - like trick and treat instead of guising; proms (even for little kids) instead of school parties but the very worst one is this "moms" instead of, as has always been either "mum" or "mummy". Its okay for Americans to use this word but not us.

Can you imagine using that word to your mum - you'd probably get a clip round the ear!!

Agree with you, Evie but I don't think it is anything the Yanks are doing.

For some reason, we seem to imitate everything that they do, here in the UK, in Europe, in Russia ... all over the world. More so in the past, when Hollywood filums and American telly reigned supreme - but still happening.

I think I may have mentioned in the past that I hate the swearing that seems to be acceptable nowadays.

Nobody seems worried at all by the bad language being used on telly.

I hate the bad language used on T.V. Some teenagers use the F word as if it's part of the English language.

Just like the many youngsters who copy the Australian accent, probably watching too much Neighbours. Every sentence a a question.. I.E. I'm going out tonight?......It really annoys me.

The F word IS part of the English language and before the Norman conquest was in use as the correct word for the act of sexual intercourse. It is, in fact, an Anglo Saxon word.

Well we know it's part of the English language and I think I learned the meaning of it when we looked up rude words in the dictionary waaaaaaaaaaaaaay back.
