Is the quality of M & S food declining?

Postby caroljoyce » Wed Dec 15, 2010 11:42 am

I think it is. The other week I bought two jars of cranberry sauce from M & S because they had buy one get one free. No wonder they were giving one away ...when I undid the jar it looked all watery and runny.... not at all nice to have on the table Christmas day. Tony is a soup lover so he picked a few cans of their mushroom soup up. He said it wasn't as nice as the soup he'd had from Asda at a fraction of the M & S price.
Has anybody else noticed a decline in their food quality?

Is that by chance the Baxter's from Canada? I buy their soups ... can't be beat, though the Tuscan Bean Soup does create -- ahem :rolleye11: -- a few problems for me ( and it's worth it !! )[/font]

Never ever buy soup, always make my own. Its years since I shopped in M&S and always thought their food of very good quality but very very expensive.

I like M & S food, usually of fairly good wuality.

Baxter is well known Scottish company, their Royal Game soup is very good.

I used to keep tins of their strong chicken curry as stock - Trev can't/won't cook, and they were ideal for him, and very good too.

They changed the recipe a couple of years ago, and are now a very inferior product.

There is a M & S Food store in Petersfield - we don't go there often, but when we do we will treat ourselves to some of their goodies. Last time we found it hard to find anything really tempting.

I think a lot of the other retailers produce excellent products now.

A lot of those cakes etc. are all made in the same factory. I know of one in Hull where they make cakes and gateaux for Tesco, Asda and M&S.

I think aqll M&S stock is inferior these days. Buy one of their Tshirts, wash it and try ironing it. You'll find it all twisted and almost impossible to iron.
I also make my own soups and mushroom soup couldn't be easier.
And Tony I have just baked a Lemon Drizzle cake, I can smell it as it's cooling. Nithing beats home made.

I so agree with you June.
Early hours of yesterday morning when my Arthritic knees were playing me up I got out of bed and made a batch of fruit scones and 17 shortbread biscuits.

I agree June. I am currently experimenting with making a range of various trifles.

The thing is M&S do a Lemon Drizzle Cake in their gluten free range that is equally tasty.
