After checking the addresses in the 1881 Census I photographed a few houses in Gainsborough where my greatgrandparents had lived and also found out that my grandparents had lived opposite to each other in Albany Street before they were married. Not quite the boy and girl next door but not far from it.

You are right they lived very near. I have never pursued into that area, my Grandmother had also a previous marriage and had 2 sons called Wood, Mums Step brothers. It seems my Grandfather although born locally had worked on different farms and was a bit of a wonderer. Dont think there was any chance of the boy next door situation. Keep intending to do a bit of digging, but never get it done. :dunno:

There was a man called Wood who lived near my Grandmother. He was a chimney sweep who was also an excellent cook, specialising in beautifully decorated cakes, and was extremely busy around Christmas time. He had the nickname of Mr. Black and White because of the soot and flour.

Do not think he was related to me but you never know, I do not know anything about him. I really ought to do a bit of research did'nt I. Whoever he was Grandma re-married.
