Pineapple Broom

I first saw this tree growing about four years ago and wanted one in my garden.

My son and d-i-l bought me this one, which I've now had for three years.

It's one of those trees which people always ask the name of and try to obtain.

I think it's lovely.

The latin name is CYTISUS BATTANDIERI

Thanks Monika, you've just answered a question for me. I saw a beautiful specimen of this at Michelham Priory today and it wasn't labelled. How strange you should post this today. :sunglasses: :sunglasses:

I don't have room in the garden Monika, possibly my soil is wrong too, because most of the plants at Michelham were acid loving

Huh, I must have pressed the wrong submit button again.

I put a reply here yesterday - or thought I had.

Beautiful tree Monika. I have never seen one. Almost the same colour as Laburnum, isn't it.

I guess it is a bit like laburnum, Emm.

It's supposed to smell like pineapple, as well as looking a bit like the fruit but I can't say that I can smell it.

The leaves are really nice. They are a kind of silvery green, having a downy, velvety feel to them.

Now that it has got above fence height, our next door neighbour asked me what it is called so I think he may well be going to buy one.

From the photo, the leaves look leathery.
I would like one, too - I am all for unusual things.
Just one problem - where would I put it.
