Orchids

I was given an Orchid for mothers day, it has now finished flowering, it came with a small bottle of food which you snip off the top and insert the bottle into the compost, can anyone tell me do I let the Orchid rest now after flowering or do I feed it

I know nothing about orchids, and see them as really exotic.

I bought one stem at an orchid show; the flower was a creamy pale lime green. That flower went from that, to shell pink, blush pink, cerise, red, burgundy. I have never seen a flower do that! It was magnificent!!

Thought while I was here, I'd put mine in 'the gallery'.

One of my daughters in law keeps hers going year in year out.

That is the same as mine Monika, I have just 2 more flowers to come off then I will cut down the stems right back to the base and wait for more blooms to come.

Thanks for that tip, Ann; I didn't know what you did with them after flowering.

Do you continue to feed them? (I haven't actually fed mine at all but I'm sure I should do)

When all of the blooms fall off you will cut the spike (the long stem
that the flowers were on) way back to near the base of the plant. Then
you continue to water as before and just wait for the next time it
will bloom. Depending on the potting mix it's in now, you may have to
repot it but for now I wouldn't worry about that. Just take care of it
and enjoy the flowers.

We will have a race, just cut of one of my stems, the other has 1 flower on it.

My orchid has still got 8 flowers on it but ..... it has now produced a new shoot which has 7 buds on it.

It also looks as if it is starting to form another shoot too.

I wonder how unusual that is?

It's the first one I've ever had, Monsy, but I think I shall get another in the future. The flowers seem to last for ages.
