A woman at the hospital (I talk to anyone) was telling Me I had cut the stem to far down I should have just cut the flowers off and left the stem.
I have been feeding it and its growing nicely but no flower at all. Will wait patiently.

Your lucky with your orchid Monika, my flowers finished ages ago, this is what I was told to do,

When all of the blooms fall off you will cut the spike (the long stem
that the flowers were on) way back to near the base of the plant. Then
you continue to water as before and just wait for the next time it
will bloom. Depending on the potting mix it's in now, you may have to
repot it but for now I wouldn't worry about that. Just take care of it
and enjoy the flowers.

This orchid is now growing three more shoots, so I rang the Radio Nottingham gardeners this morning to ask if this was unusual.

They said that these "Moth Orchids" can go on flowering for ages like this, and when it has finished flowering you cut the stem back to just above a node .... but you mustn't cut it less than 12 inches.

It seems, Ann, that you have been advised wrongly about cutting the stem right down, but I hope that it will flourish again.

I know you have green gingers, so it probably will.

Well it's to late mine is chopped of to the bottom, still will wait and see what happens.
