Terror suspect Abu Qatada smiled smugly for the cameras today as he was released from jail following his dramatic victory against deportation. The hate preacher was driven home to his wife and five children in north London from Long Lartin jail in South Littleton, Worcestershire after an appeals tribunal yesterday said he should not be sent to Jordan to face terror charges because witnesses in the trial may have tortured. The move is a huge blow to the Government and will cost the taxpayer £5million-a-year in surveillance - and put MI5 under huge pressure.
