Blackout

Postby dita » Mon Dec 04, 2006 8:58 pm

My computer has been having problems, screen goes black then returns, no work lost but just returns like nothing has happened, been back to the company twice, (no cost to me) returned after replacing components etc; it is still doing it. Has anyone got any ideas? It usually does it twice in a few minutes then again later, it has only showed error report a couple of times despite it often happening. I have no graphic card, one is now ordered to see if this is the problem.

Cannot really knock the company, they have taken it back twice without any costs to us and it has been on test, had new motherboard, memory etc: They think it is something to do with the fact I have no graphic card, have now, it arrived this morning so will see. Never thought about Standby Rowan will look into that.

Well, I had a new computer last year - TFT monitor and it was doing the same. Suddenly it'd go off, black, then come back on again. Anyway, in the end, I noticed that although the plug in the back of it was very stiff, it could still work its way out very slightly when I was dusting behind and under the monitor, and also if it was moved, etc. I pushed it in really hard and it hasn't happened since! Sometimes it's only something very small. (By the way, I always thought you had to have a graphics card of some sort for the monitor?)

Grapics card is on the Motherboard, we were trying to increase the size of it because we thought that was the problem.

Silly question, but you have really pushed the plug into the back of the monitor hard, have you?

Computer packed and returning to the company tomorrow, we are getting a full refund. We have bought new modem, keyboard and mouse plus the graphic card, had enough now and played holy war. Just wondering when the money will be returned to us now. :tantrum2:

Computer was returned, was waiting for the promised re-fund, got a phone call from the company to say they would re-fund but a new body had joined the firm who was really experienced wanted to do certain checks, we said ok because apart from the black-out problem the computer worked perfectly and as I said this company had been fair and had fetched and taken the machine back 3 times withno charges throughout. Anyway a phone call from them today confirmed it was a motherboard fault and we had had it replaced before. It seems they had a batch of faulty motherboards so the replacement was also the same problem. Anyway it should be back in a couple of days.
