What I wonder is; when the spindryer is going or the freezer 'going', why does the floor above get vibrated as well as the ground floor? Solid 1960s houses should withstand it surely. My whole bed seems to move sometimes, like I imagine an earth temor, or like being at sea. Good vibes NOT!

When trains go past - our whole house shakes and trembles - can be scarey sometimes.

I would expect trains to have the shaking effect, or heavy traffic. But this, though similar sessions of tremor, is from the appliances. I unplugged the freezer the other night, and such bliss! I slept through without being disturbed by movement - but only till 5.45 because the sleep pattern has been attuned to these for more than a year.

Just had a service engineer call to fix a fault on my oven and I asked him about your problem and he offered the following advice.

1. It is often possible to "tune out" vibrations by adjusting the levelling feet of the unit. This is done when the machine is actually vibrating.
2. Failing that a thick carpet, carpet underlay or some such material placed underneath the machine to deaden and absorb the vibrations would help.

VM, thank you very much for asking your man - I have taken this advice on board.

(I still cannot see how, logically, the bedroom floor upstairs - and bed - should be affected by the vibration when the appliances are on the ground floor.) :scare: I DON'T WANT the earth to move for me. :hide:
