What a beautiful pony. Is she a Shetland or a Welsh pony? Or are those two the same?

Shetland..... she's not far from home. Prizewinning I'm told, but a bit tubby at the mo, so she was in her element with loads of space to stretch out. Welsh are the same size but different I think.

Rowan...... when you come up, just wander down the lane, put a head halter on her and bring her back to pet..... be warned tho'....she doesnt like going home, so its big style coaxing time......heh heh.

Aaaaawwww that is lovely Haus.

We have one here like that and its taken for a walk everyday just like a dog.

My dog nearly s***s herself when she sees it because its ten times bigger than her and it also leaves bigger deposits behind :roflmao:

Here's another Honey! She's our daughter and husband's latest "aquisition", a two-year-old Lab/German Shepherd cross (we think).

Caroline was pretty upset when we lost our Snowy last year, but she and Ricky decided to get a dog of their own and they "took delivery" a couple of days ago. Can't wait to see her, as I'm sure you can guess!

We used to have horses, Haus, but a bit bigger than Honey while a friend of ours had a Welsh Mountain pony. They are not as small as the Shetland but not a large horse by any means.

Kevin, a dog I had was a labrador/german shepherd cross and no one could have had better friend than Rex was. My father used to talk about a dog he had as a boy but in the end even he admitted that Rex was a more lovable dog than his. Very gentle and good with children but a good watch dog all the same and very protective of the family.

I used to have a german shepherd/whippet.
Beautiful dog, wonderful nature.

What was the reason for breeding horses so small? (Shetland ponies).

Tinker with Dante. Unfortunately, the picture is faded with age. He was a lovely brindle colour.

Was a Darwinian thing, I think, Emm.

Everything that evolved in the Shetlands is smaller than on the mainland, likely because of the lack of grazing. In-brought animals interbred with them, so what "native" stock there is now is bigger than the originals but still smaller than on the mainland.

Oh, right.
I thought it maybe had something to do with having them down the pits.
