Paw Gigi.

Postby Maywalk » Thu Jun 01, 2006 7:05 pm

I had to take my dog ( Gigi ) to the vets this afternoon.
She has been chewing her paws and today she has gone off her food.

I have been treating her paws with a special shampoo that I had from the vets last time I took her.
However this has not helped.
I now have a spray to put one puff in her food each day and steroid cream to apply to her feet and she has to have two 4mg Piriton allergy tablets a day to help with the itchiness.
I was told to get one of those big collars to stop her licking her paws.
I had no intentions of putting her in a ruddy great collar so that she could not lie down properly so I have been and bought some baby socks to put on her feet to stop her licking the steroid cream off until its done its job.
Watch this space. :roflmao: :roflmao: :roflmao:

If it wasn't painful and so irritating for paw Gigi, I could have laughed my socks off at those little pink and blue paws. She looks really sweet and it is a million times better than wearing a ruddy great collar. Hope the treatment will bring a rapid recovery. I am very sure she knows you are making it better.

Just had to wash it off Viv because she was going frantic.
Running round the house not knowing what to do with herself.
I have spent over an hour washing her paws with special shampoo to take the irritation out of them and calming her down.
Poor little soul was whimpering with frustration because she did not know how to get at them.
The shampoo is a special one from the vet to counteract any rashes or eczema.
It has to stop on for 10 to 15 minutes to do its work. It did calm it down for her but I was stroking and whispering in her ear all the time.
I finally managed to get her on her bed and kept stroking her to take her mind off it.
I will be going to bed myself in a few minutes and as she sleeps at the side of my bed I will know whether she is restless or not.

She probably had the socks off as soon as you were asleep! Poor wee thing, you can't tell them it's for the best.

Must admit she looked funny though! :roflmao:

I had to stay with her until she fell off to sleep with me rubbing her belly. :dunno:

I had already taken the socks off before she went down to sleep.

Just like having a baby again.

When I had Welsh Springer Spaniels, they were plagued by long ears of grass getting in-between their toes and in their ears.

Had to get Gigi to the vets again this morning.
She was going crackers with the itching BUT I also noticed that she kept her bottom on the floor. I wasnt happy about her and my lovely d-i-l came and took us to get Gigi checked over.

It seems as though she also has a very sore anus due to filled anal sacs apart from her paws.
No wonder the poor little bugger was growling in frustration because she could not get at it.

The vet has given her a steroid injection and an antibiotic one a well. I have antibiotic tablets to give her starting from tomorrow.

I bathed her this afternoon because she stunk where the vet had been prodding at her anal sacs
She smells a lot better and is a little calmer.

God! how on earth anyone can see an animal suffer is beyond me because I could have wept for Gigi this morning.
My d-i-l was concerned about me and my blood pressure because I was all worked up about Gigi.
What a bloody morning.

Heres hoping that the antibiotics work and the steroid injection. Got to take her back next Saturday for another steroid injection and a check up.

Maisie - if it is ecxema she has got - the one guaranteed cure is - Exmarid lotion.
The EEC in their - wisdom???? Stopped production of it a few years ago. But I think it is back on again now.
