Just come back from walking my dog when I saw a chap I knew sitting in his front garden with his dog who had three paws wrapped up.
I asked him what “Whisper” ( the dog ) had done and he said he was sitting on the front doorstep at 2am this morning with “Whisper” who is a rescued greyhound. He said he could not sleep with the heat and sat there to keep cool.
While sitting there “Whisper” spotted a fox.
She jumped over the small fence and shot down the road after the fox but it must have eluded her because she stopped dead and into the bargain sliced all her pads off her paws with the impact of stopping.
The vet came out to her at 3am this morning to bandage her up.

I felt so sorry for her because it must be hell with pads on her paws in his heat. She had made no attempt to get them off her paws though.

I have never heard of this happening before. I know dogs pads can get sore but I have never heard of one slicing the pads off.

*wince*

Poor thing! The pavements are too hot these days to have sore paws.

Oh, poor soul.

My whippet, Cassie, has thin skin on her feet.
I sent for some lotion from a greyhound firm. Apparently, humans use it to toughen the souls of their feet, too.

It has done the trick, Cassie no longer walks as though she is on hot coals when she is on tarmac, now.
