I have heard of this practice for some years now.
But, a new web site has just been started - to try to get a national register of dog blood donors.

Take a look HERE

That's a brilliant idea Emm - I wish they would do something like that here in Scotland.

A worthwhile effort! Some months ago here a police dog called "Edge" was stabbed in a fracas and lost a lot of blood. He was given a blood transfusion from a greyhound and has since recovered completely and has recently returned to full duty. His handler says, with a smile, "He's a bit faster now". Edge made front page news for several days, such was the public interest.

That is an absolutely cracking idea Emm.

I hope they get plenty of donors.
One never knows if your own pet would ever need a transfusion.
If I still had Gigi I would enter her details but like humans not every dog would be suitable for this I would imagine.

Heard this on the Paul O'Grady show, what a great idea.

It was a lady with a retriever who had the idea.
One of her dogs needed a transfusion. Fortunately, she had three other retrievers -and they were suitable donors.
I believe that in a dire emergency, any donor blood will do. But if they get the register to cover the country, then they have a better chance of perfect matches.

I don't see why people in Scotland can't join in, Rowan.
