Morning Dita and all, don't know what happened but I posted earlier and it has vanished, So sorry about your trouble with the bank Andere, Isn't it supposed to have improved now. I use my card as little as possible, pop into a bank now and then draw a lump sum and manage from there. Hope doggie enjoys her walkies today, bug hugs from me. Having arranged better weather for the weekend ,pussies should be o.k. and not too hot. Big kisses all round. Was a bit late to start this morning, changed and washed all the bed linen, hubby off to the dentist so out of my way. Sorry Ionly mentionedonepuss, havejustlearned how to find the original on the photo thing. Lovely cats, bet you miss them. Take care all and have a good weekend. cheers Penny

Andere, commiserations about the plonk!

Modern banking - I think , in many ways, so much has deteriorated since the ledgers and quill pens. Mistakes hardly ever happened then. If they did, a culprit was found and roasted. If there was a penny (old money) difference at the end of day balancing, all staff (in a moderate-size branch) stayed behind to check back through every listing till that penny was found. Plus, customer service was exceptionally good.

I was in Lloyds Bank as a school leaver, at the end of the fifties. My first branch with 15 staff,(Wembley High Rd) was 'very modern because it was mechanised', meaning we had accounting machines. But there was still a big old adding machine where you pulled the handle to input each amount. We did searches for one penny, as described.

Before moving into Central London and the City, I was on relief at North Harrow - non-mechanised - where everything was still by hand. Maybe not quite the quill pen, but almost!

I don't think technology can be credited with everything being faster and simpler. Look at the NHS computer!

We had an ironmongers, also co-op in our town that had those things that wizzed across the air from counter to office, they were wonderful.

Morning Penny and all. Chelsea Buns, you make me feel guilty for not doing so much baking these days, think I'm getting bone idle. Doggie sends big hugs, she doesn't care as long as walkies comes first, she says. Nothing planned this weekend apart from a bit of gardening, the weather is quite nice again, hope it lasts a bit because it has been so cold, not looking forward to winter at all. Have a good weekend and take care of yourself Penny :) and all.

Sorry Dita, again this machine is playing up. I did put - because I am bored sick, no conversation, no visitors and I can't go any where without him indoors. He has been sitting all day, I did make a remark about square bums but it goes over his head. Just got the buns out, 16 all told, he walked in the kitchen and said they look nice then back upstairs. Any way, am going to rest myself now. Bigs hugs to my little friend. Hope this gets on, cheers Penny

Morning Dita and all, lovely and sunny so far. Had a busy morning, with the sun on the windows could see the dust so decided to clean the windows at the front when the sun abated. Put in a couple of loaves and having Piri Piri chicken with chips and baked beansfor lunch. Odd for Sunday but thought it would make a change. Hope doggie enjoys walkies today, big hugs and big kisses for for all pussies. Not to hot now. Did anyone watch Brucie yesterday evening, fantastic. Think he was and is wonderful. Take care all and have a good weekend. cheers Penny

Good morning Penny, I am sure with you on this one, mine has his laptop in front of TV, playing either Solitare, Chinese Chequers, tele blaring out and then he falls asleep and leaves me sat there like a lemon, I could throttle him and very often have a job to control myself. :( Doggie also has a job to drag him out for walkies and sends very sympathetic hugs to you. Its a nice day here and the sun shines, hope it same with you, Keep your chin up Penny :) you are not on your own. Take care my friend, and all around.

Sadly I did not see Brucie, reason see above rant :)
Never had Piri Piri Chicken, is it ver spicey?

Huh? It's absolutely grey all over here; hasn't really got properly light all day, more like January than September. Interesting what difference a few miles can make, isn't it?

OH has gone off to Basildon for a meeting of vintage radio enthusiasts - tea and bikkies and valves, or something. Sounds a bit sad to me but it gets him out from under my feet so I can get on with the laundry and the ironing without interruption. I know what you mean, Dita, about sitting for hours in front of the laptop playing solitaire, etc, especially when there are loads of things he's promised to do. At least mine doesn't have the TV on as well - although he thinks I'm strange, sitting at my desk typing away with the radio on. At least I do that in my own space and don't annoy anyone else......

Lucy sends purrs to all cats and dogs. I've just changed the bedding so the little wretch is busy anointing the clean duvet cover with tabby hairs. I've chased her off twice but she keeps sidling back and I hate closing doors unless it's so cold I have to.

We tried out the new wine last night and, thankfully, it's absolutely delicious!

I might have posted a few humorous descriptions in the past of the avid-reading man who sat with his pile of library books and worked his way through them. But after five and a half years on my own (including three and a half with Trixie), I would give everything, plus try to move heaven and earth, just to get him sitting there again, 24/7.

Think on the whole our ranting on about our men is really done in a humorous way Viv, and god forbid if any of us were in the same position as yourself would feel the same as you. However we are not, and a bit of fun this way is surely harmless.
