Better Late Than Never.

Just had my first family of blackbirds in the garden, three rather fine males.

Best I stock up on mealworms!

Blackbirds (and the ubiquitous starlings and sparrows) are about all we do get these days Penny.

When we first moved here we were feeding lots of finches, tits, dunnocks, wrens and so on.

Intensive use of herbicides and pesticides on the surrounding fields has removed their food and trey have gone elsewhere.

Such a shame. I hope ours remain here. we buy lots of seed and biscuits and as soon a I enter the rear garden they stand waiting for me to throw some biscuit. I have quite a bit of fun and there is always one gets very friendly and I always name him or her George..Enjoy your time with them. cheers Penny

I think that I posted some years ago that I awoke early one day and was in the kitchen making tea at about 5.30 - it wanted at least an hour until dawn.

I was startled by a tap on the window and looked up to see a female blackbird indicating quite clearly that she wanted breakfast!

Haven't seen them in the UK for years, but we had both in Germany, along with all manner of birds, we also had a family of red squirrels, the youngsters who would play with us peeping around tree boles for all the world like human babies hiding their eyes!
