I've been hearing things on and off for months about knitted poppies but hadn't taken a lot of notice - the concept seemed a little odd! However, i heard of a couple of places where the thousands of knitted poppies have been put to good decorative use for Armistice Day so I went out in the teeming rain yesterday to take a look....
This is St Andrew's Church at Kirton-in-Lindsey where, to be honest, I think this cascade looks nicer than those very famous and huge poppies that cascaded from the Tower of London and Lincoln Castle a few years ago.
At Saxilby, near Lincoln, they've completely covered the war memorial in poppies:
And here's a close-up of some of the poppies. I'm half-wishing now that I'd got involved an knitted some. Maybe next year!
