Good evening, all. We got home around 10pm last night after more than 15 hours of train travel. That's more than enough for me!!
The holiday weather didn't improve - still cool and threatening rain when we left. I spent the last day in bed, trying to get over this cold and get my temperature down so I was fit to haul luggage and my brain wasn't too addled. Everyone else went off for a spectacular ride over the Afsluiting Dam followed by a steam train trip and a boat ride. So sorry to have missed it
Anyhow, we made it back in one piece although I've still got the bug and OH is now showing symptoms. Altogether, not the best of holidays. Such a pity as we'd looked forward to it for months....
On to more cheering things..LK will be coming home in the morning. I do miss her furry little presence around the place. And, on the subject of felines, what good news about Trixie. At last, she's decided that vets are OK people after all. But I guess a cat having an early bad experience with a vet is much like a child having a bad experience with a dentist and can leave a permanent mental scar and/or phobia. We have to get LK's annual vaccinations and check up done next week. She's generally OK about it, unless she's feeling purrverse and just enjoys being as non co-operative as she can.
Dita, I can't begin to imagine how lost and lonely you must be feeling. I can only send my love and sympathy. You're on a journey that so many of my friends have had to take during the past few years and they've all dealt with it differently, according to their natures. These are very early days so be kind to yourself and lean on your friends as well as your relatives. Following on from Maggieh 's suggestion, I guess you might find it difficult to go away with Dolly to consider but could you maybe invite an old friend to spend a few days during the summer? Perhaps someone who also knew OH well so you could talk over shared memories, good, bad, funny or sad?
Good news about your legs, Penny. So now you're chasing that nice gardening chap harder than ever?
PS. I'm well impressed with all these young musicians (speaking as someone who was always in trouble for dinging my triangle in the wrong places). It's great that they have the interest and enthusiasm to practise and aren't just sitting about thumbing their i-pads as we hear about so much. And who knows where their interest might lead them?
