Elusive mouse.

Postby caroljoyce » Wed Jan 13, 2016 11:02 am

There’s a mouse in our living room.
I saw it a week ago and again last night – it ran from beneath the sofa and darted under a wall unit.

We’ve been trying to catch it for over a week. We have two traps set – one with cheese and the other with chocolate. It hasn’t attempted to eat any of the food.
I was told peanut butter would catch it but even that hasn't helped. Last night I put a good dollop of peanut butter on the traps but they were untouched. I know it came out because I put a tiny crumb of biscuit on the carpet and that was gone!!
I got a new highly sensitive rentokil trap but that hasn't worked either!

I almost admire the little thing for being so clever but I really do want to get rid of it.

Any suggestions?

PS. I have been told that you can get sticky traps that the mouse's feet stick to and catch it that way.
Urgh I would then have to dispose of a live wriggling mouse - I couldn't do it though I suppose hubby Tony wouldn't mind doing it.

It does seem cruel though. I'd rather give them a quick sharp chop...

Aw penny - course it's a mouse - I've seen it several times. It does seem to have an extraordinary long tail though!
Perhaps long tails are a sign of brains! lol

I'm intrigued by your little visitor Carol, we once had a nest under our floor boards they made the strangest scratching noises, unfortunately we had to be quite brutal in the end to get rid before they all got into the house. Your little critter almost deserves to escape and have its freedom, we have a few in our old coal house where it maybe welcome to join them, cannot think of a solution though beside what you are doing .

Tonight I am going to load all three traps with peanut butter and put one under the wall unit and the other two behind the settee.
If this doesn't catch him I won't know what to do!!

Get or borrow a cat?
Try baiting one of your traps with bread ; mice love anything wheat flour based. Good luck!

Tried bread Andere - he rejects it.
My daughter has a cat but he's nervous in strange houses. You know how cats like their own territory...

I'll let you know later Maggie. I haven't been in the lounge yet - I'm waiting for Tony to get up and go look.
Mice give me the creeps - I don't want to see a dead one!

Life with a cat isn't always plain sailing. I still shudder when I remember the morning I stumbled, half awake and barefoot, into the kitchen.... and trod on the half-eaten mouse that Annie had left for me so I knew she was earning her Whiskas. I'm told that my scream was heard in Romford!

:roflmao: @ Andere - so true - they bring all sorts of offerings we don't want!!!

Tony checked the traps for me and we haven't caught it!
Three traps loaded with peanut butter in a place we know the mouse runs and it's managed to avoid them!!

I just don't know what to do now!
